Creative Writer

Talks about poetry, and poetry workshops for private/public sector institutions and community groups.

Writing my first poem at 12, I  have been doing readings at events for nearly 20 years. I have a catalogue of work covering topics including mental health, current affairs, race and gender, history, family, belonging and more. Much of my recent work also considers spaces and places and my lived experiences of being disabled while Black – with focuses on autism and dyspraxia.

Whilst I do poetry readings, I also deliver lectures on spoken word poetry and creative writing to community groups, schools, universities and really whoever is interested.

No event is off-limits.

Popular Culture’s ‘Silly’ Worlds

Using the worlds of pop culture to empower ourselves in an increasingly hostile society. This can be done as a talk or workshop(s) using films, television and so forth as ‘serious waste’ to open debates about the inequalities that show up in our lives.

Suitable for children and adults. Age 12+

As a Black person and as an disabled person, I see the world through multilayered lenses and the approach to all his work is intersectional.

Through my own writing, reading and life experiences, I have developed a knowledge of how real-world issues can be talked about through mediums like films, TV, and comics. These sessions find complex debates in popular places including the digital worlds in Ready Player One, neurodiversity in Marvel entertainment, and ethical questions in Star Trek.

From workshops and talks to readings and facilitating discussions, I  have been to schools, universities and even prisons, and always up for sharing messages through lectures, discussions and workshops.

All sessions are available online to public/private sector institutions and community groups, but can also be delivered face-to-face.

Haunted while Black

Black history packages for public/private sector institutions and community groups.

Black history is everyone’s history.

These workshops also offer the opportunity to think about Britain’s Black history through processes of unfinished histories (as haunting). This was a major part of my PhD research where it was the metaphor of the ghost that allowed me to find information where there was no official records!

Workshops and talks for both private / public sector institutions, and community groups. Get in touch for a chat.

From lectures to readings and facilitating discussions, I go to schools, universities, prisons and others, and am  always interested in sharing messages through lectures, discussions and workshops.

All sessions are available online and can be delivered face-to-face.
